Dear parents and carers,
Thank you for your understanding this morning, as we have been managing localised flooding both here on the school site and on the local road network.
As of 2:00pm this afternoon, our school site has begun draining slightly and all our buildings are now accessible. However, the school car park is extensively flooded, so we ask any parents coming to site to park instead in the Tacchi-Morris Art Centre car park, or to find on-street parking nearby.
We would like to thank our students in Years 8, 9 and 10 for their patience, and for their resilience in moving to remote learning for today’s lessons. If you were at work yourself today and therefore not able to supervise your child’s remote learning at home, we would be grateful if you could ask them how it went and to show you what work they have done. Please do contact your child’s tutor in the first instance if your child had difficulties accessing their work in Bromcom/MCAS (or in Teams, if they are in key stage 4). Similarly, please share your success stories with your child’s tutor so we can add achievement points for excellent remote learning.
We are expecting to be fully open to all year groups tomorrow (Wednesday 28 January). However, we are monitoring the local flood warnings, weather forecasts and local conditions very carefully. The links to these services are at the bottom of this letter, for your own reference.
For children who travel on the School Transport buses, please do be aware that this service is not operated by Monkton Wood, and communication about any cancellations comes directly to families, either from Somerset Council or from the bus operators themselves.
Should there be a deterioration in conditions overnight, we will follow the same process as this morning to inform families of any closures or later opening times. Messages will be sent to the MCAS app and to your email inbox. We also update the Somerset LA school closures website (link below) and the school’s website and Facebook page.
