Year 7 Applications

If you are a parent or carer of a child in Year 6 and wish to apply for a place at MWA for the following September you will need to complete the application form and return it to the admissions team at Somerset Council. Forms can be completed online, or paper copies are available on request.

In-year applications

If your child is already in secondary education and you wish to apply to Monkton Wood Academy please use the form in the downloads section below.

The Academy has an agreed admission number of 240 pupils for most year groups, with year 7 accepting 270.

In year applications must be submitted directly to the academy using the local authority in-year application form (hard copy only). In year application form.

Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the published admissions number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out in our Admissions Policy.

Batches of applications will be processed with a 4pm daily working day deadline for receipt of applications. If more applications are received than there are places available, the over-subscription criteria will be applied. A decision will be notified in writing by second-class post to the applicant within ten school days.

Proof of address will be required to be submitted with the application. This will be either for formal ‘exchange of contracts’ letter from the solicitor for a house purchase, a recent utility bill or the signing of a minimum of a six-month tenancy agreement. Monkton Wood Academy reserves the right to seek further documentary evidence to support a claim of residence.

Parents will have the right of appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision of the Academy. The Appeal Panel will be independent of the Academy. The arrangements for Appeals will be in line with the Code of Practice on School Admission Appeals published by the Department for Education and Skills as it applies to Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools.

There will be a right of appeal to an Independent Appeals panel for unsuccessful applicants. If you wish to appeal this must be done within 20 school days from receipt of your refusal letter, this can be done following the link below:-
