Dear Parents / Carers
At the end of this term, I wanted to write and reflect on the feedback we received in the Parent Survey last year, in which you said you would like to know more about what your child is studying at each point in the academic year.
As a result of this, I wanted to direct you to our updated curriculum maps for Year’s 7-11 which can be found on our website here.
You will be able to find an overview of our curriculum.
You will then have the option to click on specific subject areas to find out more. Within each subject area, you will find details regarding the key knowledge and skills for each unit.
These will support you in understanding what your child is studying term by term. We will develop these and create termly newsletters highlighting what is being taught and how you can support your child at home.
One way you can support your child is through engaging with their homework. We are calling this Independent Study.
Independent Study (homework) at MWA
Independent study (IS) is a low cost but high impact activity that can help all students to achieve better outcomes at school. When purposeful IS activities are linked to learning in the classroom, and feedback from the teacher is included, students improve their progress by +5 months on average. (Education Endowment Foundation, 2021).
We are currently updating MWA’s approach to IS and would love to gather some of your views, please can you help us by completing this short survey: https://forms.office.com/e/nsse97nABQ
Thank you for your support this term and have a lovely half term.
