Parent Update 05.09.25

5 September 2025

Dear parents and families,

It has been a terrific week here at Monkton Wood. We are delighted to see our students again. Our whole-school attendance rate this week is 93.6%, which is an improvement on the same time last year. Congratulations to Year 7, achieving a fantastic attendance of 98.5%; what a fantastic start to the year!

Homework arrangements
Our students will be shown how to access their homework in the MCAS pupil portal in their assemblies next week. Following this, teachers will begin setting homework for their classes according to our homework approach, below:
The curriculum will be enriched by the provision of high quality and appropriate independent learning which extends classroom learning. Homework, referred to as Independent Study should be set regularly on Class Charts and where possible utilise quizzes and knowledge organisers to test recall and build knowledge. Opportunities to participate in additional activities which extend learning will be offered to students, such as after school clubs and opportunities to grow their talents.

Students can expect:
All Independent Study tasks will be set on MCAS, ensuring that suitable time frames are given to complete each task set.
Feedback on the quality of Independent Study tasks will be offered by the teacher; achievement points will be awarded for completing work to the required standard.
Teachers will use MCAS to monitor the completion of Independent Study

If you have not already done so, please do sign up for the MCAS parent app, so that you can see the homework that has been set.

Information on our website
We are currently in the process of updating all our website sections for the start of the new year. As well as a summary of our KS4 and KS5 outcomes for 2025, you will be able to find a report on how the school spent our grant funding for our pupil premium students, and the updated curriculum plans for 2025-26.

Breakfast Club
Our breakfast club is up-and-running again, and we are ready to welcome new students that would like to join us. We open the school canteen at 8:00am, for children that have arrived on site early. Food is available, and children eligible for the pupil premium are able to have a free breakfast of toast or a pastry.
Please note that the school register is not taken until tutor time at 9:00am. If parents have any concerns about their child reaching school safely for breakfast club, please call the school’s main number so that our receptionist can make sure they have arrived.

With thanks for your continuing support.
