Geography

Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the frameworks and approaches that explain how the Earth’s physical and human features, at different scales, are shaped, interconnected and change over time. Geography furnishes learners with the ability to understand and adapt to a changing world, learning from the changes of the past and applying this to situations and circumstances of the present and future.

Key Stage 3

We provide high-quality Geography education to inspire students’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We aim to equip students with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and physical and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. The intent of our KS3 Geography curriculum encompasses this and spirals from the local and national scales at the start of Year 7 to the international scale in Year 8 followed by students applying their gained knowledge and skills to the different “spheres” of the Earth in Year 9. This enables them to leave KS3 Geography, if this is their last year of study, as Global Citizens.

Key Stage 4

We study the AQA exam board at GCSE. Which includes a “physical geography paper”, a “human geography paper” and a “applications or skills paper” all at the end of Year 11. Each exam is 1.5 hours long. We do fieldwork on two occasions and go on trips to collect and analyse this data, These experiences are tested in the third “applications or skills” paper.  All topics and exam papers have statistical maths skills in them along with map skills, such as Ordnance Survey maps.
